The Ennist Family: Deck

When we first bought this house a little over 2 years ago, there was a window where you see the sliding door now. (By the way, I don't know why this is underlined and I don't know how to make it stop!) We put in the sliding door and then wanted a deck, but decks are expensive to build, especially if you build them out of trex. So we waited. A deck was not in the plans for the renovations this summer. Then one day at work, one of the anesthesiologists asked Sean if he knew of anyone who wanted a deck. He made one out or trex last year and due to all the wind out at his house, his wife decided she wanted a sun room instead. So he had this deck that he didn't know what to do with. And guess what?? It was the perfect dimensions for our house. And he sold the whole thing to us for $500. All we had to do was put it in.........

First Sean had to bust out the old concrete patio and dig holes for the support posts.

Tyler helped by making sure they were all deep enough and wide enough for a 4 year old boy to get in.

This one is out of order but I wasn't about to re-upload all these pictures, so you get a sneak peak of the almost finished product.

Then the boys went out to Dr. Ragland's house and loaded the two sections of the deck on a flatbed trailer to transport back here. Sean had the frame made by this time so they just had to set the two pieces on the frame. Trex is very HEAVY by the way. It took a lot of strong men to lift the deck over the fence and set it in place! Thanks for all your help guys!

Then came the fixing and modifying. Tyler and Sarah are intently watching Grandpa. Next time we get a deck, they will be able to do it all themselves!

Almost finished! The deck now covers up our crawl space entrance so Sean had to make a door on the top that can be lifted up to get down there. He finished it up last night and I am sure he couldn't have done it without the help!
